Have Your Cake and Eat It Too

Desire_Rene Girard

I wish I were like my neighbor, the fitness instructor

Craving beets, mangold  and parsley cocktail splendor

And all things green for a fortnight detox on the rocks

She calls this festival: the chlorophyll paradise paradox

Yesterday, I told her spitefully that I have a secret to both

Have my cake and eat it too

Jubilation t’was to see her avid face and make her gasp

have nots, that’s how delay of gratification looks like

T’was too painful her she can-get-no-satisfaction looks

So I sadly improvised a diet with so much deprivation

She gladly gave me the nothing-new-under-the-sun book

And to celebrate my fortunate escape from depravation

I had my cake and ate it too

Happy Heuristics
